About this site

Hijri Date Today is a small set of free tools for anyone who lives with the Islamic calendar: today's Hijri date, a two-way Gregorian–Hijri converter, full year calendars, countdowns to Ramadan and the Eids, and plain-English guides to how the calendar actually works.

It was built by Bilal Ahmed, who writes about the Islamic calendar for English-speaking Muslims and got tired of converters that show one confident date with no explanation of where it came from.

How dates are calculated

Every date on the site is computed two ways — the worldwide tabular (arithmetic) calendar and Saudi Arabia's Umm al-Qura calendar — and you can switch between them anywhere it matters. There is no server, no database and no API: all conversion runs in your browser, which is why the tools are instant and free. The full explanation, including how we verify the math, is on the methodology page.

The honest caveat

Islamic months begin with the sighting of the new crescent, and the crescent is sighted on different evenings in different countries. So every tool here carries the same line, and it belongs on this page too:

For Ramadan, Eid and Hajj, follow the announcement from your own country or community.
