Hijri age calculator

Solar years and lunar years are different lengths, so your age in Hijri years is not the number on your candles. Enter your birthdate to see both.

Why two ages?

A Hijri year is 354 or 355 days; a Gregorian year is 365 or 366. Over a lifetime that 11-day annual gap adds up — after 33 solar years you have lived roughly 34 lunar ones. Muslims marking a child's milestones, or working out when someone becomes accountable for fasting, often think in lunar years, which is what this calculator shows alongside the familiar solar count.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Hijri age higher than my Gregorian age?

A lunar year is about 354 days — roughly 11 days shorter than a solar year. You fit more lunar years into the same lifetime, so the Hijri number runs a little higher.

What is my Islamic birthday?

Your Islamic birthday is the Hijri date matching your birth — for example, if you were born on 15 Ramadan, your Hijri birthday falls on 15 Ramadan each year, about 11 days earlier on the Gregorian calendar every time.

Is the Hijri age exact?

It is calculated from the Umm al-Qura calendar by default (tabular optional). Like every date here, the underlying Hijri birthday can differ by a day from the observed calendar.
